Jay Bharat Restaurant Menu – Newark, CA

Type : Indian restaurant

Location : Newark, CA

In 1985, Ushaben and Nayanaben started making Indian snacks at home the way many people used to, back in India more than 8500 miles away. Bharatbhai would sell these snacks to his peers and clients of Indian descent. While Chandrakantbhai would sell it to people as he picked up odd jobs around Los Angles. Within 2 years they decided to open a restaurant with the intent of providing traditional village style Indian food, something that was being missed by the hundreds of Indians migrating to America.

Bright, casual restaurant specializing in traditional village-style Indian street foods. Based on 703 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.0 stars. Price $

Visited this place to experience Gujarati food but it is not worth the hype! We tried dabeli that was okay 6/10. The covering of puranpoli was thick and chewy… something that I did not expected. Chole curry was tasting uncooked and lacking spices. It felt like boiled chole are mixed with tomato purée and served as is. We also tried undhiyu….this was worst and nowhere close to undhiyu! No Surti papdi (which is a must have), no methi muthia. It shouldn’t be called undhiyu in the first place!

This is a good place to enjoy authentic Gujrathi cuisine. The Undhiu and Dabeli were delicious and satisfying, with rich flavors and fresh ingredients. The service was courteous and attentive, and the ambiance was cozy and inviting. The only thing that could be improved was the Shrikhand Puri, which was a bit bland for our taste. However, we still had a great time and would recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something different and tasty.

This place used to be good. Now they are taking advantage of young ladies, a co worker order 60 samosas and 5 lbs of laddos.

Jay Bharat used to be a great place to have decent Gujarathi food. We have been to this place many times before the pandemic and loved their food. Alas, the good experience stays in my mind as just distant memories.

Sanjota Purohit
A proper veg restaurant for Satvik vegetarian food. I ordered Roti Shaka instead of Rotli and was wondering why Bajra rotis are tasting like Chapati! After enquiry I got to know! Glad I did this mistake because the Bajra rotis from Kathiawadi thali were too thick to chew. Chapathis are very small! Curry was same across all the menu. Dal was just dal with chilli powder (there was nothing else like Cilantro or tadka). They don’t give two types of veg curry as stated in the menu. It’s just one simple curry and Dal.

Been here twice.Vegetarian Gujarati food.Food is definitely good. Many dishes have sweetish tinge. Neat ambience. Pay first and eat concept. Limited quantities. Only issue is pricing and hospitality. All dishes are fairly overpriced compared to other Bay Area restaurants. They even charge $1.5 for extra sambar. Price would be the only reason I would think twice to go here.

Pathetic customer service. Gujrati restaurant, run by a gujju but still ashamed of speaking/greeting in Gujrati when you greet them. Zero curtsey or gratitude towards customer. Cost cutting everything from portion to ingredient to even ambient temperature of the restaurant. Employing elderly laborer and working their butt off. This place should be shut down.

Being a gujrathi myself i uded to love this place. But after covid the quality and quantity of the food has gone down dramatically. We ordered food at around 7.40 for 4 ppl..one mini thali, 2 chole puri, 1 sabudana and 1 shaak rotli and we paid around 60+tips. The food was served to us at 7.47 and we finished eating and were out the door @ 8.10.
