This is a regular stop for us when we come to Marathon. We first tired Herbie’s almost 20 years ago. It has the best Clam Chowder in the Keys. Everything is hand made. While other places have great fries, this is the place for fried onions and craft spirits. Their Conch Fritters are amazing, moist, and have a “to die for” flavor. The fish was wonderful and the steamed clams were mouth watering. You do yourself a disservice if you do not visit Herbie’s when in Marathon. It is a must.

This local restaurant is full of spirit and great food. A small “hole in the wall” that is easy to drive by. However, if you happen to park here, you are in for a treat! This place is handicap accessible. However, the bathrooms may be tight to enter. Offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Give this place a try. You can’t go wrong 🙂

This place is so good. It had a very rustic feel to it, the atmosphere was great and so was the service. We got the parafries and the fried chicken and both came out piping hot and delicious. I would buy a bucket of any of their sauces if they let me. Great selection of local beers and an amazing bang for your buck. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for lunch if I lived here!

Nothing fancy on the inside, small bar and seating on one side, didn’t go into the other. Food was delicious and plentiful. The cheeseburger on a plate is basically a salad that consists of everything found on a Cheeseburger, without the bun and the platter is ringed with fried cheese curds, so good! Clam Chowder was purchased by the Quart (cold) and taken home for later, phenomenal! Plenty of beers on tap. Buffalo chicken sandwich was crispy and seasoned just right!

Nice little side of the road place. Easy to drive right by it but I’d recommend stopping by. I had fish and chips and my wife had the mahi sandwich. Fish was fresh and had a great flavor. They also have a pretty extensive beer menu (I think about 30 taps) with a pretty good selection. Would certainly go back

My wife and I went in for dinner and discovered they have quite the extensive craft beer selection. Their list is posted on Untapped if you use that app. We started with sharing cups of conch chowder and clam chowder and they were both amazing! We then shared the shrimp Floribbean tacos with rice and beans on the side and an extra side of pickled veggies both of which were also really great! Or waitress Erica R. was an excellent server. We will definitely go back the next time we are in the area.

The chicken and smashed potatoes were amazing. The ribs were super tender. The beer list was just okay but with the food I didn’t care. The service was friendly as well.

Great place. Makes you feel like a local, even on your first time there. They smoke their own meats in house. The ribs and pork was perfect, as was the potato salad. The beans aren’t a traditional baked bean, but they have their own great flavor. A lot of work was put into the food. Great beer selection. Bartender was high energy and fun. I’ll seek this place out every time I’m in town.

After spending a week in Marathon, I sampled a variety of what the island has to offer. We came to Herbie‘s for some appetizers because we couldn’t decide between two restaurants. I’m glad we started here because this is by far one of the best clam chowders I have ever had. It was thick and flavorful and my only regret is I only got a cup. I’d rate the baked oysters at a 7/10. They were a little gritty but incredibly flavorful. The food arrived fast and hot. Everything was as ordered. Normally, I’d rate this place around a 4 based on the food alone but the atmosphere really pushes it over the edge. The locals at the bar were so friendly and the staff here really are outstanding. We love places that look weathered from the outside because they usually have the most amazing staff and food. Herbie’s is doing it right and I would certainly return! Check out my other reviews of places in Marathon!

Food and service were great. But, they crammed 8 of us into one picnic table. It was hot and miserable. While the party beside us was split into 2 tables, 1 for adults and kids. We had 8 adults at 1 table. Food came out slow. They were out of a lot of stuff by dinner. The owner came and apologized. We completely understand being short staffed. I highly recommend eating here! Get the burnt ends and Poutine fries for an app!
