Now more than 40 years later Burns Original BBQ has steadily grown its customer base and is still creating great food out of the original and still standing building that Roy Burns Sr. started it all in, and the delicious scent of barbecue from our wood smoke pits still drift in the streets and passers- but can’t help themselves. Being known and voted as #1 in Houston for barbecue we continue making and serving great barbecue including our signature rib sandwich and loaded baked potato. The partnership with Kroger in 2021 has allowed the Burns Original BBQ brand to expand to locations all over the Great Houston Area! Each location takes pride in presenting that Burns Original BBQ traditional meats and sides.

Despite reviews, I wanted to try it out for myself. Went in on a Sunday afternoon, shortly after they opened. Since they had everything available, I chose the 3 meat plate with 2 sides. Overall, the food was good it was missing the smoke flavor for me. I’d say try it for yourself since everybody taste bids are different. Guys working were nice.

The brisket is not gluten free according to staff. This is unusual as most brisket is gluten free. Also listing “barbecue sauce” as an ingredient on a bottle of bbq sauce makes no sense. It also removed and confidence i might have had about checking the ingredients for allergies. It means people who care what they eat, for whatever reason (preference, philosophy, allergies, etc) cannot yet your sauce/ food.

This was my third time trying this place because it’s black owned. I was disappointed again. I ordered the chicken dinner and asked for all dark meat because the white is usually dry. I didn’t have time to check it at the store because I was going to be late for work. I got home and it had white meat instead of all dark. The white and dark was dry the only thing that was edible was the rice and macaroni. I won’t be going back. They must smoke the meat because it isn’t bbq on the pit because it’s too dry.

The only good thing I can say is that the staff at the Katy location was great. However, my experience with Burns was horrible. I am completely disappointed. I contacted them for their catering service. I ordered 2 large pans of dirty rice and 1 large pan of green beans 2 days in advance of my mother’s 85th birthday party. Now, I confirmed that I could pick up my food at the Katy location at 11:00 am. Time was crucial since I had the bday person with me and had to be at my event by 12:30.

Hands down, it’s good bbq, but the location in Kroger the team is a bit disorganized. In my order, I was missing one of the 3 meat plates, the brisket. There was confusion amongst themselves that to me got displaced onto the customer. I get it your use to fast pace at the original location, but slow it down and make it an experience being inside a Kroger’s not a regret. I will come again. I just hope that the 1st visit was just a new location experience.

Our neighborhood go-to for chopped beef potatoes. Huge portions and delicious toppings. I will say their online ordering never works, so you basically have to gamble and just drive there and hope they have what you want. Sometimes, you don’t get lucky because they sell out fast. I have had their sliced brisket and ribs, which can be on the dry side. The greenbeans are seriously delicious, and my husband loves the mac and cheese.

Wow not what I was hoping for. The meat was way under season, nice smoke ring on ribs, but brisket was something different. Honestly had not a lick after seasoning. I love to support small business but you must do better. If it was not for the BBQ sauce I would of been lost. The bake beans were excellent I must say. This was the best brisket I’ve had in Houston! It was so good I went back three times in one week. One time I was given hard dirty rice which made me mad because I had drove home before I realized it, but if they give you fresh rice it’s very good. Hands down the food is very tasty and I felt like it was made with love due to all of the flavor. Definitely check it out but make sure you check your food before leaving.

Food was dry. Meat smelled and tasted like light fluid. Paid $35 for meal with delivery through Doordash and was told there was nothing that could be done. No pickles peppers or onions.
