Absolutely loved my experience here. I am a chef by trade, and I was blown away by the food and precision of everything prepared. Best meal I have had in a long time. Kudos to the Alea team!

Great food, drinks, service and I love the vibe and decor! However, it was our first time and it was 6 of us and all were hungry, we were told it’s sharable style so we ordered 4-5 small/med plates and 3 large plates. We should have ordered each person a large plate as we only got to sample one bite of each and they were delish! By the time we wanted to order more large plates they said they were out. For 2 people sharable style works but for a large group I would treat it more towards individual dining. Or have every 2 people share. The food comes as it prepares and they tell you that in advance so no surprises. Overall a great experience. I wish I had taken picture of all the plates.

I would love to give Alea 5 stars but since they kicked us out of our table to make room for the next guests I have to hold onto that last star. Now you may think this is was our table’s fault but it wasn’t. This is a small upscale restaurant that promotes leisurely dining. We had a party of 6 people all arriving on time. Drink were slow to come out but delicious. They deliver food to the table as it was prepared the food was some of the best I’ve had so 5 stars there. One guest at our table ordered a dish that needed 40 minutes to prepare and another ordered a clambake also taking time to prepare. No sooner had we finished our meals and were wiping our mouths when our waitress said i’m sorry we timed this all wrong but the next guest are here for their 8pm reservation and we need this table. That meant no dessert no after dinner drink or coffee. It was disappointing to end a night of planning and celebration in such a hurried fashion! Boooo!!!! All said we will return based on the quality of the food preparation..

I’ll try to keep this short, but here it goes. I’ve been going here consistently for almost a year now and I can honestly say that Alea is my favorite restaurant in Cleveland. I cook a lot and I much prefer to only spend money on other people’s food who can cook better than me, otherwise I’ll just grocery shop and do it myself.

It was our first time here and we really enjoyed the food. The steak tartare was amazing! We did see many people ordering the grilled oysters so we’ll try it next time. Food took awhile because they were short staffed but it was worth the wait.

Living in the area for 3 years now, and wondered why we have never really tried alea. Well we attempted to go for my birthday this year, just for 2, we walked in a 8PM on a saturday (open till 11?) and they were “fully committed” whatever that means, open seats at the bar did not even offer it. And they don’t really take reservations. Guess we’ll never get to try. Be careful with your time!

Alea is the kind of place that makes “Clevelanders” like me talk up this city to friends in Chicago and New York (especially our food scene). The menu will make you feel spoiled and the ambiance will make you feel a little swanky. That said, it’s somehow still (in lovable midwestern fashion) unpretentious and down-to-earth. The restaurant is also cozy, centered around an open kitchen concept with a wood fired grill, giving everyone in the room an intimate experience. Their owner and chef Athan and his team work behind the bar, so if you’re seated there you’ll get “dinner and a show.” If he has a moment, Athan might generously share with you tidbits about the menu, his mixology approach, and even insights about the knives you use in your kitchen.

This place was a huge let down. I ordered the oysters and a fish dinner and I took over an hour to receive my meal and 45 min for raw oysters. The place wasn’t busy and others who had came in after me got their orders no problem. When addressing my experience with the manager he acknowledged the excessive wait time and overcooked fish. It was hilarious when he said usually people dine at a restaurant 3 times before posting a review and asked me what company I was with as if that mattered. If I’m going to pay 65 dollars for an hour wait and overcooked fish why would I come back? The way the manager handled things was disappointing and I doubt that I’d give this place another go

One of the best new restaurants in Cleveland. Great little spot in the heart of Hingetown and it’s well worth the wait. It’s modern but cozy, and there’s not many tables so get there early.

Alea is the best restaurant in Cleveland. Starting with the cocktail menu: classics with subtle touches that are a warm, amaro-kissed take on our favorites like the manhattan or martini. Each plate delivered- simple ingredients, fantastic preparations, made with love.
