River City Soul restaurant catered our 55th class reunion on August 11, 2023. We had a real soul food menu consisting of : fried and baked chicken, fried fish, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, potato salad, baked beans, rolls/cornbread muffins and peach cobbler for dessert. The food, and I mean all of it was delicious and cooked to perfection(hats off to the chefs). Not a single person had anything negative to say. A big “Thank You” to owner Tommie Reese for a job well done, he personally delivered the food. Locals and visitors, please support this amazing restaurant!!

Delicious food, appetizer was perfect.. the salad was fresh greens Not iceberg! Wait, did I forget to mention the homemade blue cheese dressing! Grilled shrimp was seasoned perfectly. My potato was cooked just right. Staff was friendly! My husband’s grilled shrimp po boy was pleasing to both palate and eyes! Love the vibe and overall atmosphere.

Okay, first of all, this was the first Sunday that the restaurant was open. They had plenty of help and a great menu. It was only a little pricey, for $15 you get meat and 3 vegetables. They’d been overwhelmed by a large family that came in, so we had to wait 45 minutes on our food, but they did explain the situation, so we decided to wait. When the food finally came, it was hot, and it was good. As far as the service, everyone there kept checking in on us, but they seemed nervous and/or maybe inexperienced. I’d still very much recommend River City Soul. I think our experience was unique because it was brand new, but the restaurant is clean and appealing. The service is very courteous and caring, and the food was good. River City Soul also does a Lot of take-out.

We tried this new restaurant for lunch today. We’re visiting Demopolis for a week and we really like to support local businesses. This restaurant was suggested to us by a few locals so we tried it. The food was wonderful! I had the fried chicken and hubby had grilled shrimp..each with three sides. Service and atmosphere were excellent. The interior is bright and fresh and clean. We met the co-owners who were so pleasant and wanted to be sure that everything was to our liking. We skipped dessert but heard wonderful comments from other diners about the peach cobbler. We want to go back for dinner before we leave. Highly recommend this restaurant!

This is about to be a takeover for Demopolis. The food was so delicious. I had BBQ Ribs, Soft and juicy, not tough at all. The Coleslaw was perfect , just the right size, texture and taste. The Baked Beans had been slow cooked and were great.I finished it with an Arnold Palmer. It is definitely a spot I will be visiting again. Y’all know how I feel about food. It has to taste like what I fix at home. ️

The fried chicken was seasoned to the gods. Crispy skin, juicy white meat chicken breast, and amazing taste. That Spinach Dip had me begging for more. River City Soul will have a returning customer.
