The Federal Menu – Agawam, MA

Type : New American restaurant

Location : Agawam, MA

Built by Samuel Converse in 1862, the impressive greek revival structure at 135 Cooper Street in Agawam, Massachusetts became home to the Federal Hill Club in 1936.
The Federal’s current owners Michael Presnal and Ralph Santaniello easily integrate the white linen elegance of that bygone era with a fresh and innovative “new american” cuisine that is perfectly prepared and impeccably served. Strong italian and french influences inspire the contemporary culinary style of chef Presnal in dishes such as his red beet risotto, burnt tangerine glazed cod, and white-chocolate panna cotta.

The Federal is dressed up as a special occasion restaurant, but is sociable and affordable enough for every occasion.

New American cuisine with Italian & French influences served in a stately Greek Revival building. Based on 677 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.7 stars. Price

There’s never any meal that stands out when you look over the menu as the description leaves you with questions of uncertainty if one should order. Finally you make a decision and carefully displayed morsels of food arrives esthetically pleasing to the eye. As you delve though the dish you chose your left with another wonderfully prepared dish that you find delicious and satisfying. The unique displays of offerings will bring you back time and time again. Always professionally done and rarely disappointing.

I am a chef and eating beyond my means is one of my favorite hobbies. That being said, I’ve been top of the hub in Boston, Cal’s, The Springs, Aster’s Steak House etc and this was one of the nicest meals I have had in my life. Perfect execution, super friendly, helpful service, magazine presentations. Just amazing! The scallop dish was other-worldly. HIGHLY recomend!!!!

Few places in the country can rival the food at the Federal, amazing quality service, delicious food, at very steep prices, but well worth it. No mail here should start off without their famous cup of balls and the fabulous pizza. My braised rib was outstanding in may just be the highlight of the entire menu, but that’s somewhat subjective given that there are no bad items served. I’ve never been disappointed on my many visits over the past 15 years.

Simply superb. My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here this evening. We could not have been any happier with the superior food and service that we received. Our waiter Blair was outstanding. He was welcoming, friendly and professional. He always checked in with us in a timely manner, to see if everything was OK, or if we needed anything. Another server, Michael, was terrific as well. We enjoyed talking with both of them.

Great place to eat a quiet meal with a significant other or double date. I’m sure they can accommodate large parties but feel that it’s better served as an intimate meal. Servers are well versed in the menu and have great wine suggestions. They have timely service, the food is amazing and the menu is thoughtful. The speciality seasonal drink menu is fantastic. I highly suggest trying this restaurant. The atmosphere is more on the quiet side, I would think this place would be out of this world if it had a lounge feel.

So we finally got over to this very-hyped, old-money restaurant. Overall we had a lovely time. It’s expensive, but you already knew that. Worth the premium, but I personally wouldn’t make it a regular destination. To start we got the zucchini matchsticks and bucket of Balls, (not pictured) but both very good. One of their trade lines is these fried risotto balls with truffle oil over mashed potatoes. They were great. For entree my gf got the short ribs with a lobster tail, which was excellent, she said it was just a little dry and could have used the sauce over it rather than underneath. I got a special they were running that night, 8oz filet over wok fried lobster with ginger and mushrooms over mashed potatoes, also with a lobster tail. It was also excellent, but everytime I do this I remind myself, I’m just more of a ribeye kinda guy. For dessert it was my gf’s birthday so she got a special they ran that night of butter toffee pudding with candied pumpkin seeds, ice creme and cream fraiche, with a simple little candle. A very nice way to cap off the meal. All in all, a wonderful experience, one of the top few restaurants in western mass. Will likely be back.
