This is a rating for lunch time on a weekday in May. Place doesn’t look like much, definitely a pool hall, probably a very different vibe at night. However absolutely one of the best burgers that I’ve had in a long time and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend for a lunch time burger.

In a way I don’t want to rate it so highly because it’s a hidden gem in Beaufort. I saw typical tourists turn their nose as they walked by and that’s their loss. This place is a local’s bar and isn’t meant for outsiders but if you visit the food is great, inexpensive, and there are lots of beer on tap. Best hotdog ever.

The James is a STAPLE in the Beaufort community. I’d go all in with the double cheeseburger all the way, with a side of fries and a cold local brew from Fishtowne (brewery a few doors down). The James is the quintessential dive bar, with the salty locals who may as well be permanent fixtures, ready for a friendly conversation and some old stories of the sea.
