This place has just become one of my favorite places in Des Moines to eat. Everything is home made and so well prepared. The sauces are a wonderful burst of flavor. The food was plentiful for the price. The service was friendly and greeted everyone who walked in. The location is on the west side of the building. Hard to see until in the parking lot. There is also a great view of down town Des Moines.

I had such an amazing meal at La Cuscatleca South today. Now that I realize that the delicious pupusa here are necessary for my future happiness, I have become quite concerned about how hidden this restuarant is! They are located in what used to be the AIB college on Fluer and Bell. Not a scrap of visibility from the street but I highly recommend you find this place.

Excellent El Salvadoran restaurant in a defunct school building (AIB). Nice views of downtown and the lake with a big patio and a retro interior (happy days meets saved by the bell). The sampler platter was very tasty, the sweet pastry was a stand out and the papusas are addictive, especially with the house made pickled veggies, cabbage slaw and salsas. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is great, 10/10

Amazing view and atmosphere but the food stole the show. Service was amazing as well. We will be back again and again.

I love the pupusas here! The sauerkraut they serve them with adds such a fresh touch. The view is lovely even though it’s in such a strange building. Everyone is very friendly and I’ve never had a bad experience. Try their baked goods as well!

A friend recommended it and we didn’t know what to expect other than some tasty papusas and anything else we struggled pronouncing correctly. It is located in one of the old AIB college buildings and buildings and it’s entrance and parking is on the south side. The bathrooms are down the hall in a shared corridor and were recently remodeled and we’re fairly clean.

Consistently delicious! We come here a lot, my favorite is the bean Pupusa and the chicken Pupusa. Very filling, sweet staff, always hits the spot. Agua ensalada is a great sweet drink I love.

Amazing El Salvadoran food. The papusas and empanadas were delicious. Located in the old AIB cafeteria, the view over Gray’s Lake and the Des Moines skyline were great from the balcony.

I am so excited about this location! I work in the same building. Today I ordered 4 pupusas – squash/cheese, loroco/cheese, bean/cheese, and jalapeno and cheese! All four were good, with the bean and jalapeno ones being my favorite! I also ordered a Coca Cola and a La Cascada! The coke is fire as expected and the La Cascada was like a delicious version of a cream soda. Their ‘spicy’ salsa was HOT and amazing & their sweet/mild salsa had great flavor! I spent $16 on everything and gave half of my food to another person here. It also came with a slaw which I didn’t have room to taste but looked great. Delicious, highly recommend!
