Just moved into my new apartment about a block away and this place easily goes to the top of my list for places to get a good sub. Atmosphere is amazing, love the feel the place gives. Wait staff is friendly and talkative. And the food, absolutely unbeatable. I don’t think a single place will be able to make a sub as good, top tier. A must visit if you want a good sub and don’t mind a little bit of a wait.

I really wanted to like this place. As a Richmond transplant it’s been a spot I’ve been told to check out for years. At first I was very excited, love hole in the wall places. They usually have good prices and good food. Sad to say I was incredibly disappointed. The Son of the Beast was hot but had little flavor, no salt, and a drop of horseradish. Edible but not worth the hour plus wait. We arrived at 6:50 and didn’t get our food until 8:00. We ate very quickly and my husband had to stand at the bar for at least 10 minutes to even get someone’s attention to pay along with another disgruntled couple. Then we were surprised with a $50 bill for two subs and two beers. Safe to say, glad we tried it but will not be returning.

Love their sandwiches. I has a great dive bar vibe. Don’t go if you are in a hurry. The food sometimes takes a while if it is busy. If you wanna chill with good folks. good drinks, and excellent sandwiches this is your place.

Fantastic Dive Bar Feel! Looking for something different we stumbled upon Chioccas. Walk down a few steps off the street into one of the oldest bars in Richmond. When we walked in we missed a crowed and it was empty except the bartender and cook. We chatted it up quite a bit with the bartender. She gave us the history of the place. They are still using the same grill “Peggy” from 1955. As she put it, its well-seasoned. Not a very big place, lots of old pictures on the wall of family and friends through the years. Love that they had peanuts at the bar. The food was really good too. A unique sandwich place. I got the “Downstairs” which was something I’ve never seen on a menu before, it was very tasty. All served with a small bag of UTZ chips. I can totally see rolling in this place for a late night bite and drink. We very much enjoyed it and would go again!

Nice little restaurant and bar with a great vibe. Mostly serves subs and sandwiches. Great selection of beer and cocktails and caters mostly to the locals. Menu has not changed since 1953 according to our server. PBR’s always $2.50 !!!

Chiocca’s makes a truly delicious sandwich! Today, we had a horrible experience and likely will not be back. We arrived and were greeted by a server, who said she would be right with us with menus. 10 minutes later she came to our table apologized for making us wait and took our beer order. 20 minutes later our beers had still not arrived, nor had we placed a food order. She just never came back. It would have been one thing if she was moving around busy, but she clearly was more concerned with chatting than service. It’s a small room, so it made the poor service especially disappointing and obvious. We aren’t sure she even noticed we left. Posting this in the hopes for better service for others at a delicious local sandwich shop in the neighborhood.

There is something about walking into a place when they are playing your jams. Service was great. Great food. Atmosphere had character. I had the Italian. It was massive and delicious. Will be back.
