Been there twice in the past two weeks with 3 others. Both times the servers were very good – attentive and friendly. My first visit I ordered the seaweed salad and the tofu sushi. The salad was cucumbers with a seaweed garnish- not what I expected. The sushi was a rice ball with a tofu coating. Again, not what I expected. Thus 4 vs 5 stars. A better description in the menu would be helpful. The second time I ordered the veggie sandwich. I didn’t want bell peppers nor onions but did want mushrooms. Server said no problem. Sandwich came and it was delicious and big. Took half home. The side was fresh berries – nice touch!

Sadly, we have bad experiences here. It was too expensive for the quality of the food and service. I ordered a salad amount other things that were small and greasy, and the flavor was off, but my salad was the cherry on the top. The spring greens were old and going bad. They put it in the middle and bottom of my plate to cover up, expecting me to eat it! Sorry, but I don’t recommend this place.

Fairly speaking, I don’t think this Japanese food quality and service deserved $80 for two people. The food amount was so small that we barely got full. Well, the Japanese food quality, or even Asian food quantity, is complicated in Hyde Park. If u want to come for the food, I guess no and try somewhere at the north side. If you want to come to a close-by place with Japanese food, you can have a try since there is not much choices anyway. I personally don’t find a specific reason why I have to try Japanese food at the Hyde Park. They offer some discounts for UChicago students. I went there a month ago so don’t remember the detailed number. The price I listed were after the discount though.
