A great Japanese restaurant with some really good food. We ordered appetizers to share and drinks. The oyster mushrooms were okay but not life changing. The wagyu fried rice was so disappointing. It lacked flavor and the steak was chewy and hard.

My friends and I came here for dinner and we had a splendid time exploring new flavors and dishes. Among the three of us we ordered a plethora of food but we love every bite:

Great vibes, great atmosphere, and great service. The perfect place to chill, eat, and drink on a weekday or weekend night with friend and/or family. Each dish was very flavorful and delicious.

TenGoku Aburiya is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Chicago. Their portions, prices, and overall execution is stellar. Sake list is excellent as well. They offer carafes and bottles for reasonable prices. If you are looking for an authentic Japanese/Korean experience, I would highly recommend TenGoku. Their savory dishes are always on point, particularly the Robata dishes like Tsukune and Gyutan. The classic comfort noodle dish Suki Yaki was a touch too sweet, but it was still very tasty.

We came in for around happy hour and had the agedashi tofu and chicken karaagre. The tofu was excellent – chicken was good. We later ordered the omakase sashimi and the omakase kushiyaki, which was so delicious. I would highly recommend this place. My favorite was the scallops and mackerel sashimi, agedashi tofu and the beef-wrapped mushroom kushiyaki

This costed me 78 dollars (my bill was 82 plus some change but I subtracted the cost of a can of soda). I ate one of the pork skewers because I was starving (haven’t eaten all day) and it tasted bland and dry. I didn’t eat the other one. The fried rice was bland and the portion is tiny compared to what you pay. The dumplings were fused together and the filling tasted plain weird. I ate one piece of sushi before I decided to stop because the taste is off. Genuinely surprised the food is so bad and the quantity so small. Had the quality been better, I wouldn’t be so miffed but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

Overall food was authentic and delicious, just too pricey. We focused on izakaya items and skipped sushi (as you get more bang for your bucks to just have sushi at omakase yume next door, which is awesome btw)

Tasty authentic Japanese-Korean fare. Outstanding skewers including bacon wrapped asparagus, chicken w green onion and kimchi with pork belly. Scallion pancake w chilies. Classic nigiri of tuna and salmon. Japanese hot pot. Comfortable setting. Big clean bathrooms appreciated. Friendly service. Cold draft Asahi Super Dry w a great selection of Japanese whiskey.
