Thelo Greek Kuzina is a mini-taverna popped down in Great Falls and right off of Route 7 in the heart of Northern Virginia. We serve authentic homestyle Greek classics & street food for takeout, delivery and dining in. We are also a micro market of sorts, where you can grab cool wines, the best olive oil, freshly-baked village bread and desserts. Plus talk with an old Greek who has opinions, picks all the ingredients & makes the best damn gyro you can find without a passport.

Very shocked a shopping center restaurant would be as authentic and delicious as Thelo is!

Fabulous authentic food! Delicious gyros with a variety of filings. The stuffed pita appetizer was wonderful, and I loved their version of tzatziki- chock full of cucumbers and herbs. Small inside dining area with small tables, not great for groups and the air conditioning was struggling, but intimate and personal service by the owner. Our first visit, but hopefully not our last!

As a lifelong gyro lover, I was (pleasantly) surprised to learn the history of authentic Greek gyros made with pork- I ordered the lamb which I always thought to be the “best” as a result of marketing and habit, but added the pork platter at the last second out of curiosity. Between the perfectly seasoned pork and the fresh, tasty salad with amazing creamy feta & herbs, this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had and hands down the best gyro. The service and knowledge from the owner were the cherry on top and will keep us coming back to this hidden gem.

The classic pork gyro is probably one of the best gyros in my life. John, the owner, is both gracious and extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of authentic Greek food. To me, this was an awesome and humble culinary experience and I can’t wait to come back!

Great meal tonight. We spoke with John the owner and he was very nice. He spoke of his decades in the restaurant and how he doesn’t want to just sit at home. It’s clear he does this because it’s what he loves. Two of us ordered the pork gyro, my wife had a shrimp plate and my mom had a sirloin plate. Our son was given a complimentary bowl of house made potato chips which were very good (yes I stole a few!). Everyone liked their food and we had some Greek beers to wash it all down. The food wasn’t quick to come out, but we were not in a rush. We ate outside and the weather was beautiful. We also got a tzatziki appetizer which was good. We certainly plan to return. Next time I’ll try to take more photos but I was busy enjoying the food, drink, company and weather!

John is the embodiment of Filotimo. Hands down one of THE best Greek food restaurants in Northern VA. As an authentic hole in the wall, this place can get quite busy; exercise patience as the staff process your orders. The owner John (Yiannis) is a treasure and worth the visit alone. He’ll selflessly keep you company and share a drink and story with you. Give the pork gyro a shot, have some Greek coffee, and finish it with a made-from-scratch Bougatsa.

Today’s order will be the first and last time I ever order from this restaurant. I have never given a one star rating, since there is usually some sort of redeeming quality to give more life to a rating. Unfortunately, each item on my order was a let down. The gyro protein plate, I would have expected slightly more pork considering the cost. In the item description says “served with lemon dill yogurt sauce”, this is clearly a mayonnaise based sauce in look and taste. The House-made chips are burnt in both look and taste. The side Greek salad was ok, though this was the first time I have ever ordered a side Greek salad that didn’t come with feta. Lastly, there was a promotion to get a buy one, get one free croissant. Who doesn’t love a croissant. Well, it tastes alright but I only received one, thus another let down. Every restaurant has an off day, service, meal, order, etc. I hope this review will help the restaurant and future customers make informed decisions.

Lovely food. Felt transported back to Greece (in a good way!). Best Moussaka have had in decades. Friend enjoyed a delicious lamb shank. Good wine choices. Excellent sour cherry baklava. Innovative home cooking. Highly recommended.
