I came in because my friend wanted me to try sushi and this is the best and I was a little unsure. It’s a small place and there was only one other table but the food was so good! They were really generous with the fish in my rolls and the rice wasn’t thick. The Dynamite was crispy and the sweet and spicy was a great combo. I’m gonna come back again.

This is one of my favorite sushi spots in Chicago! The food (and fish) is delicious, fresh, and affordable. And the service is attentive, kind, and joyful. I recommend the Fallen Angel roll, Yakuza roll, and UIC roll – those are my favorites! They also have great lunch specials, perfect for a quick meal, with or without company. Every time I go to South Kawa, it feels like I’m enjoying a meal with family!

Every time I visit here, I am treated with such hospitality and kindness. I really appreciate the staff. And then the food!!! Everything I have had on the menu is delicious. All of their speciality rolls are rich in flavor and made to perfection! The yakitori is amazing!! And the price for everything is ridiculously cheap. Truly a special place.

Had a great meal here! I liked the attention to detail in the food and service. We enjoyed the Sushi Deluxe and the Seafood Udon. The seafood seemed fresh and skillfully prepared. Even the starter salad was fresh and balanced in flavor. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. They gave us 10% off at the end which was a nice surprise. A great experience at a decent price.

Came here for Valentine’s Day. The owners were so sweet, sending us home with roses and chocolate! The soft shell crab appetizer is fantastic – the batter is different than how it’s prepared in a spider roll (which they also do well). Sashimi and rolls are well-executed without breaking the bank. Ambience is cozy and serene. Servers/staff have always been very thoughtful, like packing our leftovers as if they were a carry out order with extra wasabi and everything! Great spot for a casual date night.

This is my second time ordering take out. I ordered two Chicago Fire Rolls and one Volcano Roll. The lady called me and told me my order was ready.
