I had such high hopes for this restaurant. I regularly visit Montrose Beach and we finally decided to stop in for lunch after a walk and swim at the Beach. The waitress almost seemed annoyed taking our order she grabbed the menus immediately after we ordered our appetizers. Odd we had to ask for them back. She didn’t really do much other staff brought out our dishes. The Pierogies were good, however the shrimp skewers were laughable. Two skewers with 3 miniature flavorless shrimps each for $18 was tragically disappointing. My boyfriends burger had absolutely no flavor as well, again disappointing. The Tuna salad was disappointing as well the tuna was over cooked and the salad was drenched in dressing way too much. I wouldn’t recommend this establishment at all. Extremely overpriced and flavorless.

The service was acceptable. I got the blackened whitefish. It was oily and the size of two large sardines. The salad we ordered was a little arugula dumped into the bowl, probably right out of the plastic bag along with the watermelon that was probably out of a plastic bag with barely any flavor. The quality of the feta cheese was abysmal. The chips and guacamole were substandard. The guacamole had a brownish color to it, which means the avocados that they used had started to go bad and the chips or mediocre. In the city of Chicago, you would expect the quality of this iconic place to be better. Oh, and we had two lemonades one for me and one for my dinner, companion. With a tip the total was over $75. I was flabbergasted for the quality, the portions… I won’t be going back there anytime soon. I kept smelling cigarette smoke. I believe some patrons at the bar or perhaps were smoking. If that’s the case, then that’s beyond lame that they would allow anybody to smoke within the area. It’s too bad it’s a great little spot with a Lakeview, and all of that. whatever.

Walked in it was perfectly fine. Until we sat down to order. The waiter looked at my ID and swore it was fake (it’s legal by the way). My ID got taken to the manager Meghan who claims it looks like a sticker and that they would call the cops and keep my ID I agreed that they should call the cops because it was real. They instead brought the security guard, James to the table (we were calm) and proceed to say we needed to leave and they refused our service. James lightly pushes my friend as we walked out. We walked away and the hosts apologized and stated that they never carded people who looked even younger than us and stated that they were looking were talking about us as we walked in. We were the only black people in the facility and it was clear that this was a racial profile event intended to keep us out. I would not recommend this spot if you are looking to get racially profiled for a mojito. I was once a regular but no longer.
