Bernie and Betty’s Pizza in Springfield, IL is the very definition of a “neighborhood joint.” It is nestled within a neighborhood and looks like it belongs in any neighborhood. The exterior looks exactly as you would expect and the interior is a mix of original and some updated design.

This place is an experience for more than just the food! I got a great thin crust pizza and my spouse had pasta that she enjoyed. The place was packed and there’s a constant buzz of chattering. Our waitress was excellent. Friendly, funny, and so hard working as everyone was. When you have a full restaurant they either keep up or not and they did!

We LOVE this pizza, probably now the best in town. The Italian sausage (pizza topping) is a nice hearty, actual Italian sausage, not that crumbled sausage/ground crumble you get from other pizza places. They made our pizza with the wrong toppings, but Tina was awesome about fixing it and making it right for us. We get it to go and sit and play nostalgic 80s arcade games (for free) while we wait. We are hooked, go there once or twice a month now! As with many great local Springfield restaurants, they are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

So… we arrived at 530pm to a packed house and a pretty short line waiting to be set. The “hostess” didn’t say a word to us. She just stood by the bar with no expression. We finally figured out she was the one to speak to about getting seated. She only lit up and smiled and greeted one couple out of everyone we saw, come in to be seated/ check the wait time… she never told us a wait time, just that they were busy.We stood for over 30 minutes and, within that time, never saw anyone get their food. We saw 2 tables leave after finishing their food (they had it before we arrived) and no one ever came to bus the table. And the place seemed like chaos. Only the bartender seemed confident and in charge. So we figured between the possible wait time and the time it would take for food, we could go somewhere else and get served faster. So we did. Mod pizza got out business that night. Which I was really sad about. It had been a real long time since I had been to B&B’s for pizza. Maybe we will try an off time the next time we try to go.

My wife an I ordered $2 side salads and it took45 minutes and they were serving others pizzas that were not there before us. We needless to say we were late getting back to work and had to bring the salads with us so we will NEVER be back. They said sorry and said they are short staffed in the kitchen, NOT THE CUSTOMERS PROBLEM this is the 3rd time this has happened. Fyi just because you trained your staff to repeat the word sorry dosen’t feed me and get me back to work on time. They WORSE SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!!!

What a treasure! I heard great things about their pizza but had never tried it until recently. It was delicious! The sauce is mild enough it didn’t mess with anyone’s acid reflux which is awesome! Will most definitely have to try more from the menu soon! They do have a bomba** chef salad too, you can never go wrong there!

Comfortable casual atmosphere. Has been in business for many years. Food quality has always been consistently great. Their thin crust pizza is one of the best in Springfield.

Nice place. Cozy. Friendly staff. Very Good ticket times. Prefer the thin crust but the sourdough was enjoyable. Waitress gave me a good recommendation for toppings. Took a half baked home as a Valentine’s Day gift, it went over nicely!

Had a pony sandwich with my sister & Nephew. It’s a smaller version of the horseshoe. This place is where my Nephew & his wife use to go when they were kids. We went to honor her memory the pony was tasty & very rich, the service was good & very attentive
