If you have seen the hype on Instagram and Tik Tok, then here is an honest review on the Northlake location. My family and I frequent our favorite Mexican restaurant and taco trucks in Milwaukee, so we were excited to check out a new place.

We went on a Saturday and they didn’t have Carnitas. Pretty disappointing to go to a restaurant called Carnitas and they didn’t have it. What they did have was pretty good. They make their own corn tortillas in house. Definitely can taste the fresh. The guac was great. The chips were good but oily and salty. Probably that’s why they were good. My point being, they weren’t your standard chips you get in any Mexican restaurant. My Fortas bread was delicious. The amount of meat in the tacos seemed above average. Pretty delicious as well. Horchata was very good. The server was very helpful. New and clean restaurant. Hope they can keep it clean like that. Oh by the way, they can do better than a sfork. Cmon!!!

The Melrose location is the best. We’ve been going there as our #1 mexican restaurant for over a decade. So we were very happy when they built this location, closer to us. First, the food is inconsistent. My daughters usually LOVE the rice-this one is bland, as my 7yr old pointed put immediately. The chilaquiles are good but the way they make the eggs is different than the original, dried out. I was spitting pieces into a napkin bc they tasted weird. And the most annoying thing was the chef cutting the carnitas. He was pounding so loud, I thought he was trying to be funny cause it was so over dramatic/obnoxious. We couldn’t even talk cause it was so Incredibly loud. Get a sharper knife if it’s that difficult to chop CARNITAS. This was my 2nd and last try at this location. I’ll drive further to go to the other.

Everything was great, except one minor flaw in their system… They do not have servers that take your order at the table. You’re expected to wait in line like you’re at a cafeteria at a lunchroom in school. I would like to sit down and have my order taken, and then served by waitstaff. Otherwise, five stars.

Carnitas were good. Menudo was tough and found a very long black hair in my bowl of menudo…. I have a pixie cut so definitely wasn’t mine. It was very off putting so probably won’t be returning.

Wife saw this restaurant on our drive back home. I ordered a half pound of barbacoa to go. It came super piping hot, use caution when taking it home. It was packed with molé that was very delicious. Next time, I want to get carnitas.
