I came in with some close friends to celebrate my birthday. The bartender downstairs, Woody, is great! The family owned business was very fun to enjoy its history. My grandmother went there when it was a speakeasy, and my aunt grew up going there as well. So it was cool to have dinner where there was a bunch of history within those walls. The food, the food was delicious. Everything was exquisite. Thank you for a great night out!

I came here over 25 years ago when visiting a friend in NJ and decided to finally try it again after all these years. I remembered a place from the ‘90’s that had a lively atmosphere and decent food. Maybe it’s fallen off since then but honestly, I just don’t get it now with this place. Ordering at the door and then waiting in the dark, dreary basement bar doesn’t seem nostalgic anymore. And the food was ok at best. The salad was iceberg lettuce soaked in red wine vinegar; my fish was dry; etc. I guess maybe you had to grow up with this place to fully appreciate it.

Don’t understand the hype and never again! Fool me once shame on you , fool me twice and shame on me . What can I say… friends insisted we go for dinner and this was my second time there and I didn’t think it could be any worse than the first time . However, it was . The concept of standing in line and ordering your dinner before you sit down is baffling and not pleasant . Trying to figure out what you want to eat when people are breathing down your neck is not fun. The staff at the front is not friendly , arrogant, and not helpful . Then they tell us to go in the basement (and our elderly father(94) was with us and we asked to be seated at our table because we didn’t want to do the flight of stairs . They looked at us like we were breaking some kind of sacred ritual . Finally agreed to let us go to our table where we sat and were ignored by the voluminous wait staff . Kudos to the person who filled water glasses ..very attentive and job well done . When our server came to the table and asked what we would like to drink ,I asked what beer was available (no list available) he had no idea what beer they had .. told me to go down to the bar and look . My wife and I ordered Josh Cabernet. It was served so warm I’m surprised It didn’t spontaneously combust . Dad, ordered the pineapple cocktail featured drink and it let’s just say it wasn’t worth the $$. ….Salad .. worst ever “dressing” tasted and smelled like nail polish removal ,canned roasted red peppers with garlic for an app ..zero stars. The famous pasta and garlic oil app was as flavorless as it gets .I’m guessing 3 cups of oil and none of it EVOO…We ordered surf and turf.. filet was ok lobster bland and not fully cooked ,bone in ribeye was nicely cooked but bland, shrimp scampi was fair but never received the pasta that was supposed to be served with it . Local corn on the cob served as the vegetable after it sat in water for must’ve been three hours had no taste whatsoever .. how does one do that to such beautiful local corn ??Apple crisp was mushy and just terrible . Ordered mint chocolate chip ice cream and guess what ? Not a single chocolate chip ! the chocolate and vanilla ice cream tasted just like friendly’s . Coffee was harsh, bitter, and tasted old . And add another 15 minutes trying to get our ever so attentive waiter to bring us our check …. I didn’t mention our friends food because i didn’t try theirs’ ..

One of the most unique spots! You either get it or you don’t. Food is amazing and the history of the building and the family ownership is fascinating. Get shrimp scampi as an appetizer! The best soft shell crabs when they are in season. NJ sweet corn is delicious. French fries in beef tallow are the best!

Our favorite family get together restaurant. We have been going since the 80’s. Place your order at the door and head downstairs to the bar and have a drink and play some pinball. When you come upstairs your food is ready. Bring your appetite, portions are more than generous. Highly recommend soft shell crabs when they are in season. I was a few weeks too early. Next time. The double lobsters did not disappoint!

We’ve been here a few times and it’s an interesting place to visit. You go anticipating long waits, usually at least an hour. The service is great and attentive once you’re at the table. Food is okay, nothing mind-blowing or extraordinary. You really go for the experience.

I love this place My kids brought me. I saw the comment on the “plain lettuce”, well that is one of my Son’s favorite things. I looked at him and said of course you love it, that how I always made it. The other is the spaghetti Di Olio, he loves that too, yup, I made it since he was little. It is amazing real food!. We ordered a bunch of stuff to share and taste, not ONE complaint!!.

Definitely a break from the traditional restaurant but I couldn’t have been happier with my experience. Staff was super friendly and the food was excellent and priced quite reasonably. Definitely recommend for a casual get together or a nice night out.

Fun spot if you’re looking to switch things up. Place your order. Go downstairs for some games and drinks. Get called up for your dinner. Reasonably priced bottles of wine. Always enjoy my experience here!

It’s been a while since the last time we dined at Sammy’s Ye Old Cider Mill. I am glad the food quality and service remained great. We truly enjoyed our food and drinks. Love their Signature Shrimp Scampi and Penne Vodka. Hoping to come back sooner next time.
