I came out to try one of Austin’s newest BBQ truck: The Flaming Pit and y’all… They may just be a top 3 contender in town for best BBQ.
I got to try a couple of their items such as:
- The Big Baby: this beauty is made up of sliced brisket, mac & cheese, and jalapeño and was phenomenal. The meat was so damn tender that you barely had to chew it. ($17)
- The CC: this is their 3 meat plate with 3 sides and a dessert. I got their brisket, sausage, and spare ribs. Pork ribs are usually my fav, but the sausage here was the clear winner. It was PACKED with flavor and if you squeeze it, you can see all the juices come out. ($27)
- Mac & Cheese: they take gruyere and extra sharp white cheddar cheese, mix it with the macaroni, add parmesan & bread crumb topping to give you some of the best mac & cheese that I’ve gotten from a BBQ spot. I’m not a fan when it’s all creamy and cheesy, so this was amazing to me. It reminded me as if I was eating fancy mac & cheese from a steakhouse and that’s the idea and why they use higher quality ingredients! (Included)
- Mexican Street Corn: their take on this classic side dish was more on the spice side of things and not as creamy and rich as I expected. If I had to give a suggestion it would be to add a bit more of that creamy aspect that the classic dish usually has, but it was still good nonetheless! (Included)
- Banana Pudding: this tastes as great as you’d expect. A balanced, refreshing way to end the meal! (Included)
- Big Squeeze Lemonade: so damn good!! It’s made fresh every day with lemon, simple syrup, and sugar and was some of the best I’ve had in town. I had to get a 2nd! ($2.50)
All in all, I believe they stand amongst the ATX greats such as Valentina’s and Terry Black’s.
Prices may look a bit high, but for high quality BBQ it’s fair – especially with food prices up right now and them being in a food truck. I also love the ambiance they have going on. It’s a great place to come hang out with friends! The area is developing as they plan to add an outside bar, 2 more food trucks, and some games. In conclusion, I highly suggest y’all come try them out! I rate them a 5/5!
