We went here due to the rave reviews posted on different sites. But it seems Michigan’s soul food taste is not southern. I prefer real down south southern flavors. The baked beans were great. The catfish was very good. The green beans and collard greens were very bad. The spice used in these was very overpowering, kinda tasted like coriander or nutmeg… something that didnt taste good. The gravy on the potatoes was cold and one big lump, when i heated them they still were not good. The peach cobbler had way too much cinnamon and nutmeg. I could not eat it. However Biggie was kind, nice and very courteous. I wanted to write a 5 star review because he was so very nice, but I am writing an honest review. Oh the pig feet were not bad… nicely seasoned tender. The mac and cheese was good, on the same level of Cracker Barrel’s.

I got the baked chicken, mashed potatoes and fried okra and my wife got the catfish, candied yams and coleslaw. Everything was amazing and has lots of flavor. The service was also good, it was just the one guy doing everything himself so it was a little wait but it’s 100% worth it. It’s nice to have a great small business so close by.

Make no mistake about it. The food is good! It epitomizes African American culture at the dinner table; Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter Sundays, etc. (Old school). My only grievance? It takes “Biggie” too long to fill an order. Seriously, don’t arrive hungry, or you’ll “starve to death” waiting on your food. The operation could be more efficient. Is it worth the wait? I think so, but you be the judge. “Oh taste and see!”

Really torn on this place. We got 3 meals and it was very mixed reviews.

The food is very good and reasonable. The staff is friendly and attentive. I’ve been there several times and always had a pleasant time. The atmosphere is also a friendly positive vibe. I will say, depending on the day and time, it could be a bit of a wait. However, it’s worth it.

I tried the fried chicken from this restaurant and it was worth the visit. Seasoned well and without all the breading and extra fluff to fool people, the taste and juiciness of the chicken shows the cook’s skill.

The ribs were so good! I loved the two sides I got as well (fried okra and greens). My friend’s smothered porkchop was delicious too. I am definitely going to come back to try other items on menu. The dining area is small though and since the order might take some time, I recommend calling ahead.

The food was well worth the wait. I had the two meat combo with rib tips and catfish, sides mac n cheese and collards. The beverage I had was a big 32 oz of red kool-aid. Me being a foodie the ribs were not baked they were made on the charcoal grill, the mac n cheese were home made as well as the catfish and cornbread. The greens were good but my least favorite of all the items I had, they had a can taste to them. Overall with wait for the food I give them ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. My brutality honest evaluation of the restaurant a little small for a group of 5 or more take out would be a better option. Price was not bad for the quality of food that you get. I’m a big eater and my tray was enough for two days.

I don’t understand the negative reviews the wait is because your getting fresh food I would much rather wait for fresh food we’ve literally went two days in a row and each time the food was amazing the greens are my favorite the ribs are amazing my daughter loved the chicken she even let a few people try and each of them went with us the next day to get an order the customer service was great!!! Rather a wait or not I definitely recommend this place

I will never return to this place. Waited 2 hrs. for 4 dinners and the whole time I waited it was only 4 orders ahead of me. After ordering mac-n-cheese was told an hour later that is was gone and I could wait another 45 mins for a new batch. I declined and switched to greens instead. I asked if the greens were fresh or canned and the owner proudly gave a 5 min. speech about how he would never use canned greens. About 1 hour later we received our order after being continuously told it would be right up. The food was terrible! All four of us tasted our dinners and then threw it out. The greens was canned and the yams looked so bad that I didn’t even taste them! The only thing that was ok was the bbq sauce on the ribs but that was a waste because the ribs were under cooked.
