Ostensibly a Greek restaurant, the Morning Star’s menu is more akin to a classic American diner with Greek food also scattered throughout. You can get omelettes, a Reuben sandwich, and Spanikopita all at once. My wife had an apple cinnamon French toast which was delicious, including big apple chunks baked into the bread. I had a classic Gyro with fries and a Greek coffee. Everything was very tasty, and not much more than you’d pay per person at a McDonald’s. What’s keeping them from being 5 star is the constricting hours, they close at 2:30pm, and they are cash only which makes going there an extra hassle in a day when most places let you pay with your phone now, or at least a card, and fewer people are carrying cash.

Super cute , homey, breakfast place. Cash only, and a basic menu of Greek foods and diner favorites that are really really well done. I included a picture of the bill to show how cheap it is. This will be a staple in my diner repertoire.

Morningstar is a bit of a hidden gem in Rochester and one of a handful of Greek diners left around. The food is excellent and the service is very personable. I love having an easy spot in the neighborhood that I can pop into for a quick bite. No frills, just exactly what I need. And don’t forget cash! No credit cards accepted here.

Cute family-owned place, cash only, diner food with Greek influence. The food tasted good and was well cooked, and the “side” of home fries I ordered was huge. The specials on the board seemed like they might feed an army. The host was very friendly and the place seemed to have regulars; during our visit there were two large tables of people who appeared to know the owners. Three stars because while all of the above is true, the place sort of had a cheaper feel to it (yes, it’s a diner, but even so) and my French toast was made with store-bought white bread which wasn’t very flavorful. I would go again and order something different, but won’t seek it out.

Delicious breakfast food, well and thoroughly cooked and definitely with more quality than other breakfast places and diners in the area. Great owners and fast service. I wish they weren’t limited to just cash payments only though. They would work well with grubhub and doordash if they offered it. Definitely will tell more people about this gem in the Merchants area.
